President - Nursultan Nazarbayev
According
to the Constitution, approved in 1995, Kazakhstan is a secular,
democratic, legal and social state. It declared the principle
of the State's unity with the presidential form of government.
The President is the Head of State, the highest official.
Since April
1990 - The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
December 1, 1991 highlighted the first ever national election
of the President of the Republic where N.A.Nazarbayev's candidacy
was supported by a 98.7 % electorate.
In 1995, as
a result of a referendum held on April 29, 1995 N.Nazarbayev's
presidential term of office has been extended up to the year of
2000.
January 10, 1999 N.Nazarbayev was elected as the President of
Kazakhstan, taken 79.78 percents of votes.
Prime-Minister - Karim K. Massimov
Was born in 1965. Graduated from Beijing Language and Culture University, Law School of Wuhan University, and Kazakh State Academy of Management. Holds degrees in international law and economics. Doctor of Science in Economics. Speaks English, Chinese, and Arabic.
Started his professional carrier as Senior Economist at the Ministry of External Economic Ties of the Republic of Kazakhstan; served as Senior Specialist of the China-based representation office of the Kazakh Ministry of External Economic Ties in Urumqi; held position of the Managing Director of the Kazakh Trading House in Hong Kong. Went on to hold positions of the Chairman of the Board of Almaty Trade and Finance Bank and Chairman of the Board of the People’s Savings Bank of Kazakhstan. Was appointed Minister of Transport and Communications, Deputy Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From January 2006 served as Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From April 2006 Vice Prime Minister-Minister of Economic Affairs and Budget Planning.
Since January 2007 - Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Minister
of Foreign Affairs - Marat Tazhin
Born April 8, 1960, in Aktubinsk he graduated from the Almaty Institute of National Economy and completed a Postgraduate Study at the Kazakh State University. Minister Tazhin holds a Ph.D. in Sociological Sciences. Professor.
Till 1992 Mr. Tazhin engaged in scientific research work.
In 1992 he joined the Administration of the President and the Council of Ministers. He served as First Deputy Head and then Head of the Internal Policy Department, Deputy Chief of the Presidential Apparatus, Head of the Information and Analysis Centre
From 1994 through 1995 he was State Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From 1995 through 1999 Mr. Tazhin was Deputy Chief of the Presidential Administration and Head of the Analysis and Strategic Research Centre of the Presidential Administration.
From 1999 through 2001 he served as Assistant to the President on National Security Issues and Secretary of the Security Council.
In 2000 he was Acting Chairman of the State Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the Fight against Corruption.
In 2001 Mr. Tazhin chaired the National Security Committee.
In 2002 he was Assistant to the President on National Security Issues and Secretary of the Security Council.
From August 2002 he was First Deputy Chief of the Presidential Administration.
Since April 2006 he has been Assistant to the President on National Security Issues and Secretary of the Security Council.
On January 11, 2007 Mr. Tazhin became Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
His service has been recognized by the Order of Kurmet and two medals.
